Yoga Sutras vs Spiritual Exercises of Ignatius

10/21/2012

Perhaps you have read or heard of St.Ignatius Loyola.

The Divinity School of Harvard University recently added new course called "Yoga Sutras in a Comparative Perspective". In this course the Yoga Sutras and their commentaries will be read along with excerpts from the Spiritual Exercises of Ignatius Loyola.

The Spiritual Exercises of Ignatius Loyola are a set of Christian meditations, prayers and mental exercises. Written originally as a four-part series, a bit rigorous for ordinary day, anyway it was not written to be read or explained, but similar like in the Yoga Sutras - to be lived.

Through his stories, you will discover how the Exercises of St. Ignatius intersect with the adventure of a lifetime. In the same time, he is quite explicit that we could know God better by focusing attention to his work in our lives.

I have read Spiritual Exercises already in 1985 and accepted as the smell of prosperity. Reading Ignatius work is an odd experience.
